Franklins Solicitors needed to upgrade their legacy Ericsson telephone system, after eighteen years’ service. The main drivers for change were adding value to the business by moving to a single unified solution, reducing the cost of ownership and increasing the flexibility and resilience of the system.

Upgrading from the legacy system

Solar Communications approached Franklins Solicitors and provided an audit of the legacy telephony system, as well as the network. They quickly realised that the legacy LAN, a mixture of Netgear, Planet and Dell hardware, would not be able to support their ongoing requirements and was not future-proofed. Franklins Solicitors felt confident that they could trust in Solar’s expertise and experience in the Unified Communications arena, as an award-winning ShoreTel partner.

Solar recommended a ShoreTel integrated IP telephony and Unified Communications solution, with guaranteed lowest total cost of ownership against Cisco, Avaya and Microsoft. ‘ShoreTel Communicator’ provides integrated advanced call management and Unified Communications in a highly customisable interface with easy set-up, whereas ‘ShoreTel Director’ provides the core management of the UC system. This web-based tool streamlines the management of all voice applications across locations into one seamless interface.

Flexible and easy to manage

The ShoreTel solution can also be integrated with MS Outlook, it provides hot-desking for flexible working and up to six party conferencing. The UC solution has also been tailored to allow expansion with minimal additional outlay, for example, if the business was to expand by opening up another office.

Seamless implementation

Solar had a short lead time to implement the voice telephony and LAN in each site and, once the new technology was in place, Solar provided all staff with detailed training on the new system. They offered a full training solution on the handsets as well as for ShoreTel Communicator (for the UC solution) and ShoreTel Director (for management and support).

Solar now has a multi-year support contract with Franklins Solicitors, providing Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm support for the whole unified solution. Additional support can be requested out of contracted hours if required, as per Solar’s flexible support offering.
